One God, One Love

“Hear, O Israel; Hear, O Africans; Hear, O British; Hear, O Asians; Hear, O Americans ; Hear, everyone on earth: The Lord our God is one Lord: And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: And you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sits in your house, and when you walks by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the posts of your house, and on your gates.” (Deut.  6:4-9 emph).

Dear Reader, there is a spiritual war going on in the world today, and it is the battle for souls. The battle ground is the home, and the issue is truth. Satan has aimed all of the artillery of hell at many homes especially Christians’ homes and every shell in that artillery is a lie. Satan’s chief weapons are ignorance, fear and deception which lead to division. My friend, Satan would rather get you to believe a wrong thing than to do a wrong thing. A lie is the most dangerous thing on the face of this earth. It is antithetical to God, who is the Truth, whose Word is Truth and whose Spirit is Truth.

If Satan can get a person, a couple, a home, a church, a leader, a government, a community or a nation to move away from truth and the foundation is destroyed, then what can the righteous do? (Ps. 11:3) My friend, you will agree with me that we live in a generation that has lost its fixed standards, compass and anchor. When God created us, He has staked the whole future of our civilization, not upon the power of government, the power of motivational speakers or the power of technology, far from it. He has staked the future of our civilization, politics, culture or home and school administrations upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves and to control ourselves according to His Ten Commandments which Jesus summarized into two – Love God and love your neighbour as yourself. (read Exo. 20:1-17, Deut 5:6-21, Math 22:36-40, John 13:34-35, 1 John 4:7-8).

My friend, God’s commands are what our lives, homes, relationships, His church and our nation was founded on, which is what we need to return to in this last days. After Deuteronomy Chapter 5 lists the Ten Commandments, Chapter 6 instructs us concerning them and verse 4 reminds us that this is Jehovah God talking. The Scripture declares Him; creation displays Him; and faith discovers Him. There is one God who is One Lord, and our response to Him, in this year of restoration, completion and release, should be one love.

  • Love God with a sincere love — with all of your heart. Your children need to see in you that burning, passionate, emotional, sincerity when it comes to the things of God. Kids can spot a phony a mile away, and it is the phoniness of parents, by and large, that turn kids off to the things of God. Never forget!
  • Love God with a selfless love — with all your soul. Your soul is yourself. The whole self needs to be given over to God.  My friend, there needs to be no area in your life that’s off limits to God.
  • Love God with a strong love — with all your might. You are to love God with every inch, every ounce, every nerve, and every sinew. I’m not just talking here about physical strength. I’m talking about whatever strength you have — emotional strength, financial strength, intellectual strength, political strength, spiritual strength… the list goes on.

Finally, because there is one Lord and one love, we have a great responsibility — one law. My friend, your home should become a law school; and the professors in that home are to be Mum and Dad; and the curriculum is to be God’s Ten Commandments. These are not ten suggestions or voluntary initiatives. They are definitely not “ten steps to successful marriage or self-esteem.”  We complain that the Ten Commandments are not posted in public places in our schools or in our society today, but the question is how many of us have the Ten Commandments posted in our hearts, homes or churches?

Mummy and Daddy, it is your responsibility, not the school’s or the government’s responsibilities to teach these commandments to your children and to see that they are handed down. God says that the home is to be so super charged with spiritual truth and godliness, that His commands will pass from one generation to another. Out of what flows from our homes will flow to the church; and from our churches to the community. If we want our homes, community and our nation to last, then we must take these commandments and hand them down. The Bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Pro. 22:6)

I often recite this story but you can still read it: ‘A little boy was riding around and around the block. A man asked him, “What are you doing?” He said, “I’m running away from homeBut you’re just going around and around the block,” said the man. The little boy responded, “That’s because my mom won’t let me cross the street!” My friend, even in the earliest ages, there can be restraint in the heart of a child because of godly training by his or her parents. The only way I ever learned to play football was on the training field. The classroom wasn’t enough. This days, as never before, we parents must provide training and education for the lessons of life to be ingrained in our children. Listen! God has given us the divine responsibility of parenthood? Then, we should spend some time this days, this week and this month to train our child in areas of godly living. We should give them affection and attention. We should love them and also discipline them.

And if you are a Pastor or a Church leader, God is calling you, this days, to feed His sheep with His Word fresh from His presence for spiritual growth and strength; teach them and train them for the work of the ministry. Turn their hearts to their God – Creator and Saviour – and not to yourself. Listen! “Unless the Lord builds the marriage, family, house, church, business or government they labour in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city or nation, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Ps. 127:1 emphasis). My friend, what we need this days to build our lives, homes, relationships, ministries, businesses, schools, government, community, city and nation is one God, one love and one law in unity of purpose. There is only one and true God. His name is Jehovah! He loves us so much that He gave us Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. He said whosoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life.
